At Sanctuary Computer — we’re building a different type of technology shop. Based in NYC’s Chinatown (and remotely, all around the world!), the way we approach building things is more like a restaurant than a traditional agency, with an emphasis in providing our clients with an outspoken sense of layman comfort and hospitality.
Our org structure is less-hierarchical than traditional studios: we don’t have Engineering Managers, and instead, we rely on team members to be self-directed and to reinforce a high-performing culture of accountability. We’re building a studio that empowers creatives to do the best work of their careers.
We work in design, branding and engineering roles, with clients like Stripe, Nike, General Electric, Etsy, Mailchimp, Google, Dropbox, The Nobel Prize, Herman Miller, Adobe and many others. That same thoughtfulness is applied inward, too. We understand that technologists & engineers have a strong sense of art and integrity, and are happier being a part of a team that promotes those values.

As a Director, you’ll be one of the few team members who is not on billable client work. You’ll partner with our Creative Director, Director of Project Delivery, and Director of Business Development to support our project teams, define the strategy of the studio, and lead internal projects to help us achieve our vision. You’ll help cultivate a culture of intellectual curiosity and continuous improvement that empowers us to push the boundary of our technical projects year-over-year.

The person we’re looking for is happy, relaxed and easy to get along with. They’re flexible on anything except conceits that will lower their usually outstanding work quality. They work “smart” by carefully managing their workflow and team.
