<aside> 👋 Hi there! We’re Manhattan Hydraulics — a digital product studio and emerging technologies R&D lab. We’re passionate about humane software that empowers individuals and organizations worldwide to think in new ways, do better work, and live happier lives.

Our first team members began quietly building the studio and producing work alongside Sanctuary Computer in 2019, but 2020 is the year when we released our first website and announced garden3d with our friends XXIX, Sanctuary Computer, and Index.

With their support, 2021 has been another year full of learning; we wanted to share some of that with you!

So, what have we been up to?

In 2021, we worked on fourteen projects with many different, exciting organizations.

Here are some highlights:

• The first social platform for making sense of divisive issues in America with MTTR
• A slick website for the wearable technology experts at Apollo
• A comprehensive, developer-friendly documentation portal with Swell
• An education app to help high schoolers discover their version of success
• An open-source platform for democratic economic cooperatives called Dual Power, with Black Socialists in America
• A community-supported Patronage Program, called PALs, for Index
• A data visualization design system for a major financial services company
• And other awesome projects that we'll talk about when we're allowed to 🤐

We’ve also worked with two returning clients that came back for more collaboration; we’re always excited to see friendly faces!

Beyond client work, we were energized by studio development and growth. Here are some highlights from 2020:

• We moved to flexible pricing for all of our projects because We're not a Traditional Agency →
• We joined forces with our pals at Index, with much more continuing into 2022 🤝
• We were joined by our very first intern, Sam Taylor, who has grown into a force multiplier for our team as a full-time strategist and designer.
